21 May Kaya Iloilo ascends to No. 1 spot
Kaya FC – Iloilo took the top spot of the Philippine Football League rankings after posting a convincing 4-2 victory over Davao Aguilas FC in their homecoming match at the Iloilo Sports Complex last Sunday, 20 May 2018.
The Iloilo-based squad improved their record to 16 points on five wins, a draw, and two losses while handing the Aguilas, who now drop to the No. 3 spot of the rankings, their third loss of the season.
Senegalese striker Robert Lopez Mendy starred for Kaya Iloilo in the match after registering a hat-trick performance with strikes in the 40th, 59th and 73rd minutes.
It was a quick-starting match for the offense of Kaya Iloilo as Jordan Mintah immediate took the lead for their side with a strike just 47 seconds into the match.
For Davao, James Younghusband opened the scoring with a successful header off a corner in the 52nd minute while Takashi Odawara added a strike of his own in the 68th minute.
Meanwhile, Stallion Laguna FC caught their second straight victory at the expense of JPV Marikina FC, 4-1, at their home stadium at the Binan Football Stadium last Saturday, 19 May 2018.
With the win, Stallion are now on the No. 4 spot of the standings with a record of four wins and and three losses while JPV Marikina fell to their seventh straight loss and have landed at the No. 5 spot with six points on their record.
