24 May Global Cebu clips first win
Global Cebu FC clinched their first win in this season’s Philippines Football League at the expense of Kaya FC – Iloilo, 3-1, at the Binan Football Stadium in Laguna last Wednesday, 24 May 2018.
The Cebuano club entered the win column in high fashion with a convincing win against Kaya Iloilo to improve their win-draw-loss card to 1-1-4 while handing their foes their third loss together with the latter’s five wins and a draw.
Jordan Jarvis opened the scoring for last year’s League runners up with a header in the 60th minute while Darryl Roberts and Gerardo Valmayor added one goal each in the 72nd and 83rd minutes, respectively, in their lopsided win over Kaya.
Top goalkeeper Patrick Deyto also headlined in their win after foiling Robert Lopez Mendy’s chance from the penalty spot in the 21st minute.
On the other hand, Masanari Omura tucked in the lone tally for Kaya Iloilo with a header off a corner kick to give his side a 1-0 advantage going into the mid-game intermission.
Problems piled up for the squad from Iloilo with Mendy and Alfred Osei being sent off during their loss against Global Cebu.
Meanwhile, titleholders Ceres Negros FC registered a convincing 3-0 victory over Davao Aguilas FC in their meeting at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
The win propelled Ceres Negros back to the top of the league standings with 18 points on six wins and a loss while the Davao Aguilas are now at the No. 3 spot with four wins, two draws, and four losses for a total of 14 points.
Spanish striker Bienvenido Maranon headlined for the Busmen with a brace performance following consecutive goals in the 60th and 69th minute while OJ Porteria contributed one goal from the penalty spot in the 45th minute.
