Titleholders Ceres Negros FC and Stallion Laguna FC scored separate victories as action resumed in the 2018 season of the Philippines Football League on Wednesday, 4 April.

Ceres Negros started their title defense on a high note with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against visiting side Kaya FC at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod. The Busmen relied on the two late goals of Manny and Mike Ott to cancel the lead of their visitors and barge into the win column in their opening game in the domestic league.

Manny Ott opened the scoring for Ceres Negros with a strike in the 75th minute while Mike Ott secured the game-winner with just five minutes left in regulation.

Ghanaian forward Jordan Mintah scored the sole goal for Kaya in the affair with a lone effort in their attacking third to punish the defense of their hosts in the 64th minute.

Meanwhile, Stallion Laguna bounced back from their previous loss with a 2-1 triumph over Global Cebu FC at the Binan Football Stadium earlier in the day.

The Stallions took control of the match-up as play resumed for the second half as Fitch Arboleda took his club ahead with a breakaway strike in the 56th minute.

However, Global Cebu managed to take one back not long after with Darryl Roberts converting a header off a set piece in the 60th minute to put to two squads in a 1-1 deadlock.

Carlo Polli sank the game-winning goal for Laguna from the penalty spot in the 78th minute following a foul on teammate Jesus Joaquin Melliza inside the box by Global’s Jerry Barbaso.
