25 Jul Ceres Negros seals 2018 PFL Title
Ceres Negros FC won their second straight Philippines Football League (PFL) title with a convincing 6-1 rout of Global Cebu FC at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Busmen completed their championship run with an impressive record of 17 wins, three draws, and just two losses for a total of 54 points with three remaining League matches on their plate.
Spanish striker Bienvenido Maranon carried the scoring load for Ceres Negros with a hat-trick performance following strikes in the 23rd, 70th, and 88th minute.
Mike Ott and Omid Nazari clinched one goal each in as the Bacolod-based squad clinched a 3-0 advantage at the end of the first half while new-signing Blake Powell etched his name on the score sheet with a shot in the 75th minute.
On the other hand, last year’s runners up Global Cebu refused to back down without leaving a mark on their foes as Marvin Angeles denied the returning Roland Muller a clean sheet in the 48th minute.
“It feels good. We really wanted to play every game hard and try to win every game. We are really happy that we finished our goal with the title,” man of the match Mike Ott explained during the post-match press conference.
Meanwhile, Ceres Negros head coach Risto Vidakovic commended his wards for sealing the trophy with a few games left to spare.
“The team deserves this title. I think during the whole League, they played the best football and I think we really deserve it,” he said.
