07 Mar Ceres Negros takes home win against Shan United
Philippines Football League (PFL) club Ceres Negros FC booked their second win in the group stage of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup at the expense of Myanmar’s Shan United FC, 2-0, at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod last 6 March.
The League titleholders relied on a late game surge to secure the victory and tighten their grip on the top spot of Group F with seven points on two wins and a draw on their card.
Filipino standout Patrick Reichelt and Bienvenido Maranon of Spain powered Ceres Negros in their triumph against their visitors with a goal each in the final 20 minutes of play.
Reichelt sank the first goal for the home squad with a scrappy strike from deep inside the box in the 79th minute to finally break the scoreless deadlock between the two clubs.
On the other had, Maranon was left unmarked in the penalty area in the 83rd minute for an easy strike to double the lead of Ceres Negros before the end of regulation.
The Busmen are scheduled to play Boeung Ket Angkor FC at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh on April 11 for their second meeting in the AFC Cup while opening their PFL campaign on April 4 against Kaya FC in Bacolod.
