2017 Philippines Football League champions Ceres Negros FC began their AFC Cup 2018 campaign with a 9-0 blowout of Cambodian side Boeung Ket Angkor last night 13 February 2018 at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium.
Ceres quickly raced to a 5-0 lead in the first half. New signing Takumi Uesato and Bienvenido Marañon scored two goals each in the first half while OJ Porteria added a long ranged effort before half-time.
The second half saw the Negros side score four more goals. Boeung Ket’s Sun Sovanrithy scored an own goal while Carlie De Murga, Manny Ott, and Porteria added the cherries on top three more goals.
““The team went out there to fight. We never expected an easy game,” said Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic after the win. “We need to have this mentality in every game for the whole 90 minutes. I think the team performed well tonight and nobody expected that the score be so high.”
