12 Feb Ceres Negros Begin AFC Cup Run
2017 Philippines Football League champions Ceres Negros FC kick off their AFC Cup campaign with their first Group F match against Cambodian side Boeung Ket Angkor on Tuesday 13 February 2018 at the Pana-ad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
The 2017 PFL titlists began the year with stunning wins over Shan United and Brisbane Roar in the AFC Champions League preliminary round. Although Ceres lost in the play-off round to Tianjin Quanjian, their campaign continues in the AFC Cup where they are in group F along with Boeung Ke, Shan United, and Singaporean side Home United FC.
Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic understands that Ceres are now considered as one of the favored teams in the ASEAN region after winning the ASEAN Zonal title last year.
“ We know it already because if you have success, everyone knows you, and everyone and respects you more,” said Vidakovic. “All the teams know now that when they play against us, they have to be serious. We have to work more because everything we’ve done before, we have to prove now. That we are real, that we are a team.”
Ceres midfielder Omid Nazari relayed Vidakovic’s words and expects the Cambodian side to be a threat up front.
“Its the AFC Cup. It’s first game and everyone is extra excited. It’s gonna be a tough game but were prepared,” said Nazari.
Kick off for the match is at 7:30 PM.
