Global Cebu FC to face FLC Thanh Hoa in AFC Cup

Last year’s Philippines Football League runners-up Global Cebu FC kicks off their AFC Cup campaign with their first group match against Vietnamese side FLC Thanh Hoa on Saturday 10 February 2018 at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Global joins Ceres Negros as the PFL’s two representative teams in the AFC Cup.

The team from Cebu is grouped together with FLC Thanh Hoa, Indonesian side Bali United, and Myanmar side Yangon United in Group G. The top team plus the best second placed team among the three groups will advance to the knock-out stages.

Global Cebu saw several changes in their lineup from the last season. Skipper Misagh Bahadoran has left the club to join Perak FA while defender Amani Aguinaldo and midfielder Dennis Villanueva found new clubs in Ceres Negros FC and Davao Aguilas FC respectively.

Joining Global this term are former FC Meralco Manila players Curt Dizon, Daniel Gadia, Ian Lee, and Jinggoy Valmayor. Former Ilocos United player Angelo Marasigan and Kaya midfielder Marvin Angeles has also joined the club.

Speaking before the match, head coach Marjo Allado shared that Thanh Hoa will be a difficult opponent for Global. Allado previously served as interim head coach last year prior to the appointment of Akbar Nawas.

“An away game is always tough to start a tournament but we will give our best to have a good result tomorrow,” said Allado. “We have been watching some of their games to see their strengths and weaknesses. I believe the team had a good run last year.”

Newly appointed team captain Patrick Deyto agreed with Allado on their chances against the team that finished as V.League 1 runners-up 1 last year.

“I agree with our coach that playing away from home is always hard but we will do everything to get the full three points,” said Deyto.
