24 Sep Ceres, Global Collide Anew in Pana-ad
It’s the going to be a battle on the pitch as heated rivals Ceres Negros FC and Global Cebu FC play it out at the Pana-ad Park and Stadium today 24 September. Kick off is at 4:00 PM.
Both teams are eager to get a good result against the other especially as the race for the top four spot in the season-ending Finals Series heats up.
The Busmen got closer to a top four finish after a 1-1 stalemate against Davao Aguilas last Wednesday. Fernando Rodriguez saved Ceres’ blushes with a 73rd minute equaliser to keep Davao listless. Global, meanwhile, drew Meralco Manila, 0-0 last weekend.
Ceres assistant coach Ian Treyes understands the significance of the rivalry and are eager to get the better of Global once again. Ceres claimed the first win over Global last 3 June with a 1-0 win from a Jeffrey Christiaens late goal. Global won the second meeting with former Global player Matthew Hartman netting the winner in another 1-0 win last 5 July.
“We are already even in our first two games after winning here and Global winning in Cebu,” said Treyes. “This will be our fourth game in two weeks and I hope we can get a good result.”
“The rivalry is there. It doesn’t matter where we at at the table,” said Global coach Akbar Nawas. “When Ceres meets Global, both teams doesn’t want to lose.”
