Second-placed FC Meralco Manila Faces Global Cebu

FC Meralco Manila returns home with a clash against Global Cebu FC, this Wednesday afternoon 2 August 2017 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Meralco Manila are coming off a 3-2 win over Davao Aguilas FC last weekend. However, it was a bittersweet victory for the second-placed Sparks after club stalwarts Phil and James Younghusband played their last game for the club last Saturday ahead of their impending move to Davao.

“This is our first game without Phil and James so everyone will have to step up,” said defender Milan Nikolic.

With the departure of the Younghusband brothers, Meralco Manila coach Aris Caslib hopes that their young lineup step up to the challenge.

“With Tahj Minniecon, Curt Dizon and Daniel Gadia we are pretty solid up front,” said Caslib. “We have reliable players who can take us to the next level.”

Both teams were unable to break the tie in their first meeting last month as it ended in a 2-2 draw.

Global Cebu, meanwhile, will play their first game after a long layoff after their game last weekend vs Ceres Negros FC was postponed to a later date. Global have made moves during the transfer window with the signing of defender Dominic Del Rosario from Ilocos United FC.

“We played them once already but this will be a different game,” said Global Cebu coach Akbar Nawas.

“”They scored early against us last time,” said Global skipper Misagh Bahadoran. “We need to fix that problem.”

Kick off is at 4:00 PM at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
